stationary weathervane preaching of the blackest cloud look at all this rain and you're dreaming of the desert now shadows all around my head no, I can't stay here, no way shadows all around my head no, I can't stay here, no way heavy drought and patient seeds waiting for the melting down take a peek at what you've treed before it plummets to the ground circles all around my head no, I can't sleep here, no way circles all around my head no, I can't sleep here, no way living in the constant stream carried through a rusted sieve hymnals of the scattered team there where the simple live strangers all around my head no, I can't die here, no way strangers all around my head no, I can't die here, no way circles all around my head no, I can't sleep here, no way shadows all around my head no, I can't stay here, no way

merry-go-round, round and round I get so high but you bring me down, down, down but you make me smile for a little while until the end of the sugar high though you pull me up and down I hold on tight on the merry-go-round until it’s time, until it‘s time to get off the ride you’re so sweet you make me sick like cotton candy, just as sweet, sick, sick but you make me smile for a little while until the end of the sugar high though you pull me up and down I hold on tight on the merry-go-round until it’s time, until it‘s time to get off the ride, ride, ride merry-go-round, round and round I get so high but you bring me down, down, down but you make me smile for a little while until the end of the sugar high though you pull me up and down I hold on tight on the merry-go-round until it’s time, until it‘s time, until it's time, until it's time though you pull me up and down I hold on tight on the merry-go-round until it’s time, until it's time

you can scratch at the door and ask if I'm home if you can't ever reach me on your telephone as we tear at the life and we rip at the chance the stack of the numbers that help us to dance to the weak winded piper and the nail sharp singer scrawling their notes in the sand hypnotizing us
7.
wave that comes to get you take you to the isle shed your weary skin behind in a splayed uneven pile praise the dry vacation of your heart power separating scared to wander from the hub humming out the tones you hear from the windows of the pub it's the neon sign that loves to light the dark wander off and sell me to the judgement seat they're fast at making lists and charts and their records are complete thumb at me, voice for someone else far past caring for yourself sunbeam loving stringbait splashing in the shallow end swinging wild at open mouths but your shield is pretend the one behind is happy bound and tied and the one ahead is laughing cause you tried and your finest friend is telling you you died sipping your smokes and wearing your other hide
8.
thieves of the dark berries early rising sons of papermakers ink wasters spitting through their feedbag talking to me broken of the bit, hear us as we quit longing for a wave of chance to take us where we sit focused on the ground, head in the sound waiting for a sailing ship to bring me back a pound if you write them every day they'll send you away write them every month but be careful what you say

onto the patio, two flights down dancing on a fire escape proclaiming the great handout swinging sides, quickest feet, laughing hands, jolly face a drop in her bucket, a passing doubt and hear on faintly down the street and fainter as you go picture the colors and motions as they stretch and bow wander like a wheel on a crooked floor and nest in the lowlands where they crawl for the door

about

"Recorded throughout 2021 and released digitally and on compact disc in May 2022, the split album which you have before you called 'Dreaming of the Desert' brings together Buddhist Bubblegum, an indie pop project founded in late 2017 by Wiktor Szotowski - a Polish emigrant now based in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia - and the pseudonymous Wiggly, an eclectic, freewheeling songwriter from Missouri, USA.

This unusual collaboration, released by the American netlabel Cavern Brew Records, comes after three excellent albums by Wiggly since 2019, the first two of which were self-released digitally, and the third, 2021’s 'If I give you a cherry, the least you could do is spit the pit back into my bowl so's I can suck on it later, and you don't have to poke me in the eye with the stem,' put out on cassette and digitally by Cavern Brew to acclaim on the underground tape scene. For Buddhist Bubblegum, it follows two warmly-received digital singles self-released in mid-2020, and a year and a half-long near-absence from the music scene, during which Szotowski was working on material for 'Dreaming of the Desert' as well as for an upcoming debut album set to come out later in 2022.

While 'Dreaming of the Desert' marks the first official collaboration between the artists, the two have been exchanging and discussing home recordings for some years, which is honoured by Buddhist Bubblegum’s cover of 'Stationary Weathervane,' a song that originally appeared on Wiggly’s 'Master Coon.' The latter also makes an appearance on Buddhist Bubblegum’s half of the split as a lyric writer for the track “Summertime”. Maks Rozman of the Slovenian pop groups Regen and Masaž brings the music to life with his excellent drumming.

The material offered by Wiggly on his half of the album is a more solitary affair, with the singer-songwriter writing all of the words and music on his own, and playing all of the instruments, including twelve-string acoustic guitar, glockenspiel, banjo, djembe, and even the washboard. The results range from the electronic soundscapes of 'Raspberrystone,' to the hypnotic ambient folk of 'Ink Wasters' and 'Preacher,' to the bouncy, melodic folk pop of 'The Weak Winded Piper and the Nail Sharp Singer' and 'House on the Little Stone.'

Buddhist Bubblegum released two digital singles throughout May ‘22 teasing 'Dreaming of the Desert': 'Paper Ridges,' a song first recorded (but never released) in embryonic form in 2018, then recovered and re-recorded in 2021 in keeping with its nostalgic messaging, and 'Merry-Go-Round,' another newly re-recorded song, which originally appeared on Buddhist Bubblegum’s first single in July 2020, as the flipside of the self-titled 'Buddhist Bubblegum.'"
